Disney Cruise Line's rules feel intuitive in some ways and surprising in others. The alcohol allowance is the most generous of the major lines (two wines or six beers per adult, on every embarkation including ports of call), and Disney supplies distilled water and stateroom celebrations free of charge. But Disney is famously strict on fire safety — irons, candles, and surge protectors are zero-tolerance — and adults are asked to save costumes for Pirate Night and Halloween on the High Seas. This guide is the quick reference, drawn from Disney's own pages.

At a Glance

Allowed

Two 750-ml wine/champagne bottles OR six 12-oz beers per adult per voyage (and at each port of call), sealed bottles of water, sealed pre-packaged snacks, CPAP machines (Disney provides distilled water), curling/flat irons, hair dryers, snorkel gear, mobility scooters, soft-sided medical coolers up to 12" cube.

Prohibited

Hard liquor and spirits, all clothing irons and steamers (zero tolerance), candles, hoverboards, surge protectors, gaming consoles requiring TV connection, toy weapons resembling real firearms or knives, drones (for onboard or private-island use), full-face masks while moving around the ship.

Check first

Service animals (advance Special Services registration), oxygen and dialysis (Special Services form), CBD (always prohibited despite medical), vapes (never in cabins or verandahs), adult costumes (themed events only), stateroom decorations (magnets only — no tape, $100 damage fine).

What You Can Bring

Wine, Champagne, and Beer

Each guest 21 or older may bring up to two unopened, sealed 750-ml bottles of wine or champagne, OR up to six 12-oz beers, per voyage. The allowance applies at embarkation AND on re-boarding at each port of call — the most generous in the industry. Containers must be in original sealed packaging. Hard liquor, spirits, and powdered alcohol are prohibited. Personal alcohol may be consumed in your stateroom for free; if brought to a dining room, a $29 corkage fee per bottle applies.

Non-Alcoholic Beverages

Each guest may bring unopened, sealed bottles of water onboard at embarkation, in carry-on. No quantity cap is published, but practical carry-on limits apply. Outside soda and juice are generally not allowed — Disney provides them free with your cruise fare. Disney also delivers complimentary distilled water to staterooms on request through Special Services.

Food

Nonperishable, factory-sealed snacks in original packaging are allowed. Baby food and food required for medical or dietary needs are accepted. Homemade, perishable, or refrigerated food is not permitted, which effectively rules out outside birthday cakes (Disney sells onboard cakes via the Onboard Gifts portal — Mickey/Minnie cakes around $55, cupcakes around $10).

Medications and Medical Equipment

Prescription medications travel in carry-on, in original containers. CPAP, BiPAP, nebulizers, oxygen concentrators, and dialysis equipment are permitted with advance notice via the Special Services / medical needs form. Disney provides distilled water free of charge to your stateroom on request, and a sharps container is available the same way.

Electronics and Personal Grooming

Phones, laptops, tablets, e-readers, cameras, and chargers are fine. Curling irons, flat irons, and hair dryers are permitted (every stateroom also includes a hair dryer). Non-surge-protected power strips and extension cords are the workaround Disney recommends since surge protectors are explicitly banned. Streaming devices, gaming consoles requiring TV connection (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, VR headsets), and similar are prohibited — Disney's onboard entertainment is the alternative.

Mobility and Accessibility

Personal wheelchairs and mobility scooters are allowed and must be stored inside the stateroom. Advance notice via Special Services is recommended, especially for scooters and accessible-stateroom matching. Free wheelchairs with sand tires and limited stroller availability exist on Castaway Cay. Strollers are allowed; Disney does not publish a strict numeric size cap but oversized wagons or jogging strollers may not fit through stateroom doors.

Sports Gear and Snorkel Equipment

Snorkel masks, fins, and snorkels are permitted and welcome at Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay. Life vests are required while snorkeling and provided free. Spearguns and dive knives are prohibited; SCUBA tanks are not supported onboard. Baseball/cricket bats, hockey/lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski poles, fishing gear, surfboards, boogie/wave boards, pool noodles, hammocks, roller/inline skates, and bicycles are all prohibited.

Costumes

Welcome on themed nights — Pirate Night and Halloween on the High Seas. Disney requests that adults reserve costumes for those occasions. Costumes must be family-friendly: no obstructive, objectionable, offensive, or violent themes. No toy or replica weapons that resemble real guns or knives. Limited exceptions: store-bought lightsabers, plastic toy pirate swords, and plastic Mjolnir hammers are typically permitted. Full-face masks may only be worn while standing still at character photo locations and must be carried while moving around the ship. Adults may dress as a Disney character but cannot pose for photos or sign autographs as that character.

Coolers

A small soft-sided cooler, no larger than 12" × 12" × 12", is allowed as carry-on for medications, baby food, or items related to dietary restrictions. Larger coolers and ice chests are prohibited.

What's Prohibited

Hard Liquor and Spirits

No spirits or hard liquor of any kind, including powdered alcohol. The wine and beer allowance is generous, but the "no liquor" rule is firm. Liquor purchased ashore or in onboard duty-free shops is held by ship security and returned the morning of debarkation.

Irons and Clothing Steamers

Zero tolerance. Disney bans all clothing irons and garment steamers as a fire hazard. Onboard laundry rooms have irons and ironing boards available, and Disney offers paid valet pressing for formal nights.

Candles, Incense, and Open Flames

Prohibited entirely for cabin fire safety. Disney supplies flameless candles on request for celebrations — order via the Onboard Gifts portal at least three weeks before sailing.

Cannabis, CBD, and THC

All marijuana, CBD, and THC products are prohibited regardless of state law and regardless of medical authorization. Possession may result in denied boarding, removal from the ship, and arrest in foreign ports.

Hoverboards and Wheeled Hazards

Hoverboards, electric scooters (non-mobility-aid), Segways, skateboards, and roller skates are prohibited.

Heating Appliances

Hot plates, kettles, coffee makers, rice cookers, microwave ovens, blenders, diffusers, and heating pads — all prohibited.

Surge-Protected Power Strips and Extension Cords

Disney prohibits all surge-protected power strips and extension cords with surge protection. Plain (non-surge) power strips are the common workaround. Disney's official guidance is to avoid bringing extension cords altogether.

Weapons and Toy Weapons

Firearms, ammunition, replica firearms, stun guns, Tasers, pepper spray, mace, brass knuckles, batons, martial-arts weapons. Personal/utility knives, switchblades, dive knives. Toy weapons resembling real firearms or knives. The lightsaber/plastic-pirate-sword/Mjolnir exceptions for costumes are the only allowances.

Drones

Banned for use on the ship and at Disney's private islands (Castaway Cay, Lookout Cay). Per Disney guidance, drones may be stored in luggage for use elsewhere in port, but cannot be operated from the ship or at private destinations.

Streaming and Gaming Devices

Streaming devices, gaming consoles requiring TV connection (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo), VR headsets, and similar are prohibited. Disney's onboard entertainment is the alternative.

Gray Area — Bring It But Check First

Service Animals

Permitted with advance registration through Special Services. Required: up-to-date vaccination records, USDA APHIS or international health certificates, and any port-specific permits for every country on the itinerary, all submitted before sail date. Must be on leash and under handler control at all times. A relief area is provided onboard. Owner brings own food and supplies. Emotional Support Animals are not permitted — Disney follows the ADA service-animal definition only.

Vapes and E-Cigarettes

Allowed onboard but treated identically to cigarettes — used only in designated open-air smoking areas. Prohibited in staterooms and on verandahs. Violations trigger a $250 stateroom recovery fee, plus possible additional charges for damage to furnishings.

Distilled Water for CPAP

Disney provides distilled water free in your stateroom on request — submit the Special Services / medical needs form in advance. You can also bring your own in carry-on.

Outside Cakes and Stateroom Decorations

Outside cakes are not permitted under the no-perishable-food rule. Disney's Onboard Gifts portal sells cakes, cupcakes, balloons, door magnets, and ceiling decor — orders must be placed at least three weeks before sailing. Stateroom decorations are allowed only if attached with magnets (doors and walls are magnetic). Tape, adhesive, putty, and command strips can damage finishes — Disney charges up to a $100 fine for damage. Open-flame decor (candles) is prohibited.

Snorkel and Dive Gear

Personal snorkel masks, fins, and snorkels are welcome at Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay. Spearguns and dive knives are prohibited. SCUBA tanks are not supported onboard.

Adult Costumes

Disney requests that adult costume-wearing be limited to Pirate Night and Halloween on the High Seas. There is no formal age cutoff — the rule is event-based. Any costume must comply with the family-friendly, no-real-weapons-look guidelines. Full-face masks are restricted to character-photo stops while standing still.

What Happens at the Scanner

All luggage passes through security scanning at embarkation. When something prohibited is detected:

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bottles of wine can I bring on Disney?

Each guest 21 or older can bring two 750-ml wine or champagne bottles, OR six 12-oz beers, per voyage. The allowance applies at embarkation AND on re-boarding at every port of call. This is the most generous wine policy of any major line.

Is the corkage fee really $29?

Yes — $29 per bottle if you bring your wine to a dining room. Consume it in your stateroom for free regardless of allowance.

Can adults wear costumes any day of the cruise?

Disney requests that adult costume-wearing be limited to Pirate Night and Halloween on the High Seas. The rule is event-based, not age-based, but it does apply to all adult guests. Costumes must be family-friendly with no real-weapon look.

Can my kid bring a toy lightsaber?

Yes. Store-bought lightsabers, plastic toy pirate swords, and plastic Mjolnir hammers are explicit exceptions to the no-toy-weapons rule. Anything that resembles a real firearm or knife is prohibited.

Is the stateroom door really magnetic?

Yes — Disney stateroom doors and walls are magnetic. Use magnetic decorations only. Tape, adhesive, putty, and command strips can damage finishes, and Disney charges up to $100 for damage.

I take a CPAP — what do I do?

Pack the machine in your carry-on. Submit Disney's Special Services / medical needs form in advance — Disney delivers distilled water to your stateroom free of charge. Sharps containers and other medical accommodations are also available the same way.

Can I bring CBD oil?

No. Disney prohibits all marijuana, CBD, and THC products regardless of state law or medical authorization. Penalties include denied boarding, removal from the ship, and possible arrest in foreign ports.

Can I bring a regular extension cord?

A non-surge power strip or extension cord is the common workaround, but Disney's official guidance is to avoid bringing extension cords altogether. Surge-protected versions are explicitly banned and confiscated at the scanner.
